What is PMISbok?

PMISbok as a Body of Knowledge for Project Management Information Systems

PMISbok, the Project Management Information Systems Body of Knowledge, is an independent initiative designed to define, organize and advance PMIS as a professional discipline.

It addresses PMIS not as a single software product, dashboard or reporting platform, but as a socio-technical discipline that integrates people, processes, project information, governance and technology.

The purpose of PMISbok is to provide a structured foundation for organizations, professionals, PMOs, EPMOs, project controls teams, software vendors and researchers who work with project information systems.

Why PMISbok was created

PMIS is often treated as software. PMISbok treats it as a discipline.

Many organizations invest in project management software, dashboards, reporting tools and analytics platforms, but continue to struggle with fragmented project data, unclear information ownership, inconsistent reporting and weak traceability.

PMISbok was created to address this gap. It provides a governance-oriented and architecture-aware view of PMIS, focused on producing trusted, traceable and decision-grade project information.

Beyond Tools

PMIS is not limited to software selection, configuration or reporting dashboards.

Governed Information

PMIS requires ownership, standards, validation, traceability and information stewardship.

Better Decisions

The value of PMIS is realized when project information becomes reliable enough to support decisions.

PMISbok Volume 1
