Reliable project outcomes begin with reliable project information.
Projects are ultimately shaped by decisions. The quality of those decisions depends on the quality, governance and trustworthiness of the information behind them.
Despite decades of progress in project management methodologies, enterprise software, dashboards, analytics and Artificial Intelligence, many organizations continue to face the same fundamental challenge: how can decision-makers truly trust the information they use to manage projects?
This question has shaped Hossein Hamidifar’s professional work and long-term contribution to the field of Project Management Information Systems.
Professional Background
Hossein Hamidifar holds a degree in Chemical Engineering with a specialization in Process Design for the Oil Industry from Sharif University of Technology. His professional path has combined engineering, project management, project controls, information systems and organizational transformation.
Across EPC, infrastructure, construction, oil and gas, software development, PMO, EPMO and enterprise project environments, he repeatedly observed that organizations were investing in more technology while paying insufficient attention to the governance of project information itself.
This experience led him to a central conclusion: PMIS should not be treated merely as software, but as a socio-technical professional discipline that integrates people, processes, information, governance and technology.
PMIS is not merely software.
Project Management Information Systems should not be reduced to software selection, dashboard design or fragmented reporting. A mature PMIS requires clear information ownership, defined processes, reliable data flows, traceability, governance mechanisms and decision-support capability.
In this view, PMIS is the discipline responsible for designing, governing and continuously improving the project information ecosystem throughout the project and enterprise lifecycle.
Governance
Who owns, validates, maintains and uses project information?
Traceability
Can project information be traced to reports, risks, changes, decisions and outcomes?
Decision-Grade Information
Is the information reliable enough to support project, program, portfolio and executive decisions?
From Practical Guide to PMIS to PMISbok
In 2010, Hossein Hamidifar authored Practical Guide to Project Management Information Systems. At a time when dedicated PMIS literature was still limited, the book introduced an early structured and governance-driven view of PMIS in Persian.
Over the following years, that early work expanded into the multi-year PMISbok initiative. PMISbok, the Project Management Information Systems Body of Knowledge, was created by Hossein Hamidifar to help establish PMIS as a distinct professional discipline.
PMISbok brings together principles, knowledge areas, governance concepts, implementation guidance, professional roles, competencies, maturity concepts and a certification roadmap for the future development of PMIS.
Why I Founded IIPMIS
Establishing a professional discipline requires more than a Body of Knowledge. It also requires an independent institution, an engaged professional community, continuing research, practical application and open professional dialogue.
For this purpose, Hossein Hamidifar founded the International Institute of Project Management Information Systems (IIPMIS). IIPMIS has an international orientation and focuses on supporting the development of PMIS as a professional discipline.
The institute seeks to support the gradual formation of an inclusive global PMIS community through research, publications, education, professional collaboration, practical application, open critique and continuing professional dialogue.
